Composer
Kent Sangster completed a Master degree in Studio Jazz Writing from the University of Miami in 1991. Since then Kent has written music for all types of small and large jazz ensembles, jazz choir and documentary video. Kent currently has 3 different solo CD releases; A Matter Of Time (2002), Keeping The Spirit (1998) and Adventures (1995) all including original compositions. Composition remains central to Kent’s development as a jazz recording artist.
Orchestrator
In addition to his recording and performance career, Kent has orchestrated a variety of music for symphony orchestra. In January 2003 Kent orchestrated and conducted two performances with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra featuring Juno Award winning artist Lester Quitzau. In February 2004 Kent orchestrated several pieces for the Edmonton Symphony Holiday special - “Love, Edmonton Style,” featuring Kent, Sherri Sommerville and Bryce Kulak. Kent also has arranged and orchestrated several pieces for bigband and various large jazz ensembles. In May 2004 Kent was commissioned to arrange and orchestrate a fifteen-minute piece for the Suzuki Charter School (120 students) and 18-piece bigband. Also in May Kent arranged and orchestrated two original pieces for a 30-piece jazz ensemble at the 2004 Hugh Fraser Jazz Orchestra Workshop.
